5 Great Lower Back Stretches

Sitting on the couch? Looking at Facebook? Back Stiff? Time for a stretch! Here are 5 great lower back stretches to relax your back. Best part is you can do them from home right now!

1.) Knee to Chest: Laying on your back bring one knee to your chest by gently pulling on the back of your thigh. Hold, Switch sides.

2.) Knee Rolls: Back flat on the ground, Knees bent, rolling L/R.

3.) Child's Pose: Kneel on the ground- Bottom to heels, Stretch your upper body forward till your nose is as close to the ground as possible. With arms straight out in front of you, palms down.

4.) Cat/Cow: Especially helpful in the morning. Begin on hands and knees. Push your back upward to resemble an “angry cat” posture. Reverse your spine posture to a neutral spine position. Next create a sway back in your lumbar spine. (Imagine the sway back of a cow.)

5.) 90/90 Stretch: Sit on the floor placing the leg that you want to stretch at a 90 degree angle in front of you. Put your other leg at a 90 degree angle beside you. Your front thigh should be parallel with your other lower leg. Lean forward as far as you can and feel the stretch under your hip.
